Recommendations:
Following consensus recommendations were evolved during
the Conference.
1.
There is a pressing need to regulate surgical practices
in Pakistan in order to promote standard practices, ensure patient safety and to
avoid clinical and criminal neglect. The professional bodies and concerned
quarters of the government are persuaded to initiate necessary steps in this
regard.
2.
Realizing the need to promote the surgical practices in
general and considering increasing need of developing certain deficient areas in
surgical practices in our country, the following groups are to be developed at
national level:
i.
Hepato-pancreatico-biliary Surgery
ii.
Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
iii.
Colorectal Surgery
The
working groups shall formulate their recommendations that shall be notified by
the Society of Surgeons to the concerned quarters.
3.
In order to promote research and development in
surgical practice, it is recommended to develop the research Wet laboratories in
all major medical institutions of the country with provisions of experimentation
and training on animal and cadavers.
4.
There is a dire need to structure and standardize the
curricula, training programme and evaluation in undergraduate as well as
postgraduate medical education, mandatory development of department of medical
education and skill laboratories in all medical colleges of the country as per
PMDC recommendations should be instituted.
