Aslam conducted three practitioner’s and one CFR Instructor’s course at Muzaffarabad, AJK in August this year. Through these trainings, 13 trainees successfully completed the CFR Instructors’ Course. Both DRIP and APPNE have provided state-of-the-art equipment for these trainings that matches the international standards.
Prof. Syed Humayun Shah, Principal, Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session. In his address, Prof. Shah emphasized the need of such trainings for the staff of tertiary care hospital on a regular basis. He said that the participants should gain as much knowledge and skills from this opportunity and practical application of this would indeed raise the standard of patient care. He thanked Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council, Ireland, National Ambulance Service College and Disaster Relief by Irish & Pakistanis for organizing this training at Ayub Medical Institution, Abbottabad.
Dr. Umer Hayat, Consultant Cardiologist, Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad said that it is a great opportunity for the staff of ATH to learn and follow latest international guidelines of CPR. He opined that the pass percentage of the course may be raised from 80% to even 100% so as to elevate the standard of trainings. He thanks the organizers of the CFR Training and requested that these trainings should be conducted for the staff of each and every department of the hospital. The Instructors CFR Training included Dr. Noaman Siddiqui, Regional Director, CFR Program, Pakistan and Dr. Ejaz Afzal Khan, Lecturer, Department of Anatomy, Ayub Medical College. The training extensively covered CPR and Management of Choking in Adults, Children and Infants, use of barrier devices, use of an AED, role of Aspirin in heart Attack, recognition of death and handing over to EMS.
In the end, written exam comprising of MCQs followed by Skill Test was conducted. Successful candidates were awarded ‘Letter of Course Competition’ by the Chief Guest of Closing Session, Prof. Abdul Aziz Awan, Vice Principal, Ayub Medical College and Chairman DMC Advisory Board. In his address, Prof. Awan said that trainings such as CFR require lot of efforts, time and energy. He said that Disaster Management Centre is amongst the pioneers to start such Emergency Training Programs in the north of country. He said that fee of such trainings in Europe and USA are very high and the waiting list is also too long. He thanked PHECC, NASC and DRIP for their all out support to organize these trainings in Pakistan. Education material related to CFR was provided to all the participants.
